Portadown RFC vs City of Derry RFC
Saturday 16th December 2023
Portadown hosted City of Derry at Chambers Park on Saturday past.
The game started with Portadown applying the early pressure. Portadown managed to open the scoring with a fantastic maul try from the forwards. Mauling over from 20 metres out open the scoring. The try was scored by Matthew Gillespie.
City of Derry hit back shortly after to make it 5-5. Portadown continued to play hard and after some great team play managed to get the next score with wing Joe Orr scoring.
City of Derry hit back nearly immediately scoring under the posts. The score was 12-12.
City of Derry scored another on the stroke of half time to go in 19-12 up.
Portadown struggled the to start the second half and it was City of Derry who scored the next try. It took the score to 26-12 City of Derry.
Portadown started to get back into the game and the last 10 minutes started to click again. Some great individual work at the line out by Rhys Heasty and Matthew Gillespie saw Gillespie going over to score again.
Portadown scored again through Brandon Gribben but run out of time at the end.
The final score was Portadown 22 – City Of Derry 26.
