Portadown hosted Ballyclare RFC on Saturday past.
Portadown started the game well and were the first to get on the score sheet.
A mistake in the Ballyclare midfield allowed outhalf Michael Orr to kick the ball through and score. 7-0 to Portadown.
Balllyclare struck back soon after scoring an unconverted try. Leaving the score at 7-5. Both teams continued to fight hard and Portadown scored next with wing Charlie Logan scoring in the corner to take the score to 14-5. Ballyclare again hit back bringing the score to 14-12.
Both teams traded another score each with Orr getting over for his second. Ballyclare had the last laugh of the first half scoring their fourth and giving them a 1 point lead at the half. 21-22.
The end to end rugby continued in the second half with Portadown managing to score 3 tries to Ballyclares 2. Orr got over again to score his hatrick and then some fine team play seen Centre Marshal Clint getting over and Second Row Phil Shirley scoring the decisive try in the corner to seal the win for Portadown. 38-34.
